Hello! This week in kindergarten, we were very busy and were starting to get into the swing of things. The kids have responded very well, even through the heat and long days!
In Math this week, we worked on graphing and determining more or less. We made a class graph and then the students worked with their table group to make a graph with teddy bears. This was the first time they had worked as a group and they did awesome!
For Social Studies this week, we worked on learning the Pledge of Allegiance. We also got to learn more about the people in our class by sharing the flags you made at home. They are hanging in our classroom right now. The students got to sit in my yellow chair (this is very special because normally it is just for me!) and tell us why they chose the items on their flag. This helped them work on speaking skills and also listening skills.
Next week, we will be continuing to work on letter recognition. This past week we did Aa-Ee. Next week we will be learning about Gg-Nn. We are working on writing each one of these and frequently use individual white boards. If you want to help at home, the handwriting guide can be found here. We will be talking about setting, and our sight words will be I and am again. In Math, we will learn to write 7-9 and do some work with patterns. For Science, we are going to talk about weather.
Please work with your child on any skills you see come home in their orange folder. At this point, when they don't finish a worksheet, I send it home the way it is. It's not a problem that they didn't finish, but if you want to help them finish the worksheet at home, that's fine! You can also help your child learn their address and phone number.
As always, don't hesitate to contact me with questions! Remember, no school on Monday for Labor Day!
