Weekly Wrap Up

We had a great week! I was impressed with how they are starting to pick up on things and the discussions we've had during our reading times! We also finished up our apple unit, but you can read all about that here.

Star Student: We started our star student program this week. Be on the look out for a yellow paper to come home. It might be awhile before it is your child's turn, but he or she will have a turn! We are learning about each other and also working on our speaking and listening skills. Wrehn did a great job as our first star student! Her pictures have hung on the Star Student board this week for everyone to look at.

We had a guest illustrator come to our school on Friday! He told us a little about himself and then taught us to draw some pictures! We looked at different pictures he's drawn before he came, and even tried some of our own! If your child wants to keep drawing Steve Harpster illustrations, you can still order books through the end of the week. Also, you can check out his website at Here are some pigs made from the number 10.
We drew Steve Harpster illustrations to hang in the gymnasium
Busy being artists
More artists at work!
Our letter this week was m. We made monsters with mustaches to remind us of the m sound. They quickly took over our classroom! They will come home next week when we start working on the letter t!

We also made shape trees this week. We glue squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles to a tree then counted how many of each we used. Kindergarten has the primary bulletin board this month, and we get to see our trees every day when we walk to lunch!

Next week, our letter will be "t" and our sight words are a and to. In math, we will be working on sorting and patterns. For science, we are talking about the 5 senses!

I am going to be asking your child if they know their address and phone number soon. This skill is on the grade cards. Please start working with them to learn this! Also, reading to your child every night is so important! Reading bags will come home once this week, but the more reading they hear, the better reader they will become. When you read with them, ask them about the characters (who) and setting (when and where) in the book and ask them what happened at the beginning, middle, and end. This are all skills we have done and go over regularly in our reading times. We also know the cover, spine, back cover, title, author and illustrator.

Looking forward to another great week! If you have any questions, please contact me!

:) Miss McPheron
