Weekly Wrap Up

We had a great week this week!

Math: In Math this week, we started looking at pennies. We learned that they're worth one cent and practiced counting with one-to-one correspondence. We also did some stories with them and pockets. We also did some work with problem solving with patterns. They had to find what was missing, instead of just extending the pattern. We also had an introduction to telling time to the hour.

Centers
Writing Center: Copying sentences about fall and drawing a picture to match

Independent Reading: Students choose the books they want to look at. They have a blast looking for sight words and anything they know!

Listening Center

Phonics Center: Making letters with wikki stix

Science Center: Fine motor skills

Math Center: Roll a number

Phonics Center: Building letters with wikki stix
Science: In Science this week, we learned about living and nonliving things. Living things grow, move, breathe, need food and water, and make more like themselves. We sorted pictures of living and nonliving things and made a check list to decide if an item is living. Each child got a different picture and went through the check list on their own.

On Wednesday, the weather was so nice, we went outside to find leaves and then made leaf rubbings of them. The kids had a blast with this! We talked about how the lines in the leaves give it structure and also help the tree get the nutrients it needs.

Next week, we are working on the letter p and we have three new sight words: we, my, like. In Math, we will continue to work with pennies and time. We will introduce number lines and identify numbers before, after, and between. In Science, we are going to do some investigations with pumpkins to work on thinking like scientists. In Language Arts, we will be focusing on the main idea of a story - what the story is mostly about.

We have a busy week with different activities!
  • Monday: 7 PM Halloween Party - Your child can come dressed in their costume. We will meet in the gym, look for me!
  • All Week: The Scholastic book fair starts on Monday and will be open 1-3 everyday. It will also be open during the Halloween Party. We will go as a class on Tuesday to check it out!
  • Tuesday: Library - please send your library book back on Tuesday! If your child does not return their book, they cannot check out another one.
