Thanksgiving Weekly Wrap Up

We spent a lot of time this week talking about Thanksgiving and doing different activities related the the holiday.

At the beginning of the week, however, we spent time learning about Veteran's Day. We talked about Soldiers and wrote a class book about them.

We also made an eagle with our handprints and then put together a scrambled sentence that says "We are thankful for veterans." They also got to paint the background with watercolors. The eagles are hanging in our room right now - you will be able to see them at conferences!

I invited students to bring in anything they had from family members who are veterans. One student brought in something to share, and I also shared about my own grandfather and my cousin who is currently serving.

The kids colored pictures that I sent to my cousin, who will be deployed soon.

In Math this week, we worked with dice quite a bit. We matched a number to the number shown on the dice.
The kids also partnered up and did a roll and color to 100. Each time they rolled, they had to color that many pilgrim hats or turkeys.

Our sight words this week were she, me, and with. We did a sort with these words to practice finding them. These will also be our sight words the week after Thanksgiving.

We talked about turkeys this week. We brainstormed words that describe turkeys and then did a couple different activities with turkeys. We used coffee filters and markers to make tail feathers. A big thanks to a parent volunteer who helped us with these!

We also used turkeys to help us work on addition. We have been doing simple number sentences - and they are doing great! They added the yellow and orange feathers together and wrote a number sentence. The wall outside our classroom looks like a turkey invasion currently - you'll see them all at conferences.

On Friday, we visited the first grade and the second grade classes. First grade did a play for us about Thanksgiving.

The second graders each chose a book and read to us.

Next week, your students will not come to school. Parent Teacher Conferences are Monday and Tuesday.

The week after, we will be working on counting dimes and counting by tens in math. Our sight words will be she, me, and with, and our letter of the week will be r. We will be talking about things we see in the sky for Science.
