Weekly Wrap Up

Our week was short with having Martin Luther King Jr. Day off and 3 days of delays! We tried to squeeze in as much as we could!

In Language Arts, we started working on blends, like sl and sp. That means the words we read will have 4 sounds in our words instead of just 3. We also had 5 new sight words. On Friday, we played a game in teams with flyswatters. The goal was to be the first to swat the sight word. We kept score on the Smart Board. One of the kids told another "give it your best shot!"Some of these are blurry - they move too fast!

The orange team ended up winning - their prize was a sticker! They loved this and it was a great way for them to practice our words one, two, three, four, and five. These will be our words again next week. Our letter will be g, and we will continue to practice reading blends.

In Math, we started working on length. We compared classroom items to a pencil and made a shorter and longer pile. Then, we compared 4 items and ordered them by length. We used classroom items first, then used some strips of paper.

Jenny showed us how to put the strips in order under the document camera. Next week, we will continue to work on length.

For Social Studies next week, we will begin to look at maps.

Upcoming Dates
  • Thursday, January 31: Last day to turn in Campbell's Soup Labels and Boxtops for the Snowball Fight
  • Tuesday, February 5: 100th Day of School! Counting to 100 by 1's is one of our standards for kindergarten. We will be doing special activities this day to practice counting to 100 and to celebrate being 100 days smarter.
  • Wednesday, February 6: Early Release 1 PM
We will be having a Valentine's Day Party as a class. More details will come home soon, but if your child wants to start thinking about a box to create for our party, go ahead!

Looking forward to a great, hopefully full week of learning!
:) Miss McPheron
