Weekly Wrap Up

This week was our first week of the last quarter of the year! We have been learning about animals, working on addition and subtraction, and working with 3 dimensional shapes.

In both Science and Reading this week, we learned about animals. Our weekly story was a nonfiction book called Building Beavers. We also learned about wild and tame animals, baby animals, and habitats.
We sorted wild and tame animals, and made descriptions for each. The students drew a picture of a tame and a wild animal. They did an awesome job.

We were working on main idea this week, so we read Building Beavers and decided on a main idea. We then found ways to support that our main idea was correct. They wrote an information piece about beavers. I challenged them to write at least 2 sentences, and they did such a great job!

We have been watching an live feed eagle cam from Iowa that has 2 eaglets. It is so cool to watch the eagles raising their young in the wild! To explore more with baby animals, the kids worked with a partner to look through some books about baby animals. Their job was to pick their favorite page to share with the class.

In Math on Friday, we explored with cones for the first time. The tables observed a cone and we added these observations to our cone poster. We compared them to a triangle. Kindergarteners need to be able to describe 3 dimensional shapes as solid and 2 dimensional shapes as flat. We did a massive group sort of both 3D and 2D shapes.

Next week, we are working on color words and word problems in both addition and subtraction. We will continue learning about animals.

On Friday, you should have seen a Book Clubs Order form come home. Please return these by April 19. You also should have found a fundraiser packet in their folder. Any profit we make as a school will be used to purchase iPads for our classrooms. We get $4.50 per peeler card you sell. This will benefit all the students at East, so they will have these resources the whole way through! This fundraiser will run for 2 weeks, and also needs to be returned by April 19.

Have a great week!
:) Miss McPheron
