Weekly Wrap Up

We had a green week this week! With Earth Day on Monday, we spent the week learning about how to take care of our world. The kids made posters that are in our hallway to encourage things like turning off lights, planting trees, and picking up garbage.

They made foldables to show ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

We also illustrated a poem called I Love the Earth.

In Math, we worked on measuring distance using a non-standard unit. We used some paper feet to measure distances between different objects in our room. Next week, we will begin to measure with rulers and inches.

We also learned about symmetry. We painted butterflies to show the matching wings.

In Reading this week, we worked on number words. We have just 3 more sight words this year to learn, then we will work on reviewing all of our sight words. We played a game called bump to practice number words.

We also worked on the oo chunks. They worked as tables to sort short oo words (like hook) and long oo words (like hoop). They were so fun while they were stretching out words.

Next week, we are working on r controlled vowels (chunks ar, er, ir, or). Our sight words are this, then, and not. We are going to work on composing numbers up to 10. We also will be looking at life cycles for different animals.
