Weekly Wrap Up

Can you believe we only have 3 days left of school? We had a wonderful week this week, and we have some fun things planned for the end of the year next week.

On Tuesday, we had a Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade collaborative day. We all read Me on the Map, a book that puts different geographical things into perspective. It starts with a little girl's bedroom, then her house, street, community, town, state, country, and world. After we read the book, we went outside and made our own map of a city using sidewalk chalk! The kindergarteners made lots of restaurants, a park, and houses.

We studied the ocean this week. We learned about octopus, whales, and hermit crabs. On Wednesday, we measured the length of 4 different kinds of whales in the hallway. First we measured in feet, then we measured using kindergarteners!
If you're curious...
-A humpback whale is 48 feet long, or 13 kindergarteners.
-A blue whale is 110 feet long, or 28 kindergarteners! This is the biggest animal that has ever lived.
-A beluga whale is 15 feet long, or 4 kindergarteners.
-A killer whale is 27 feet long, or 6.5 kindergarteners.

We also learned that one whale has baleen (the filter they have instead of teeth) that is 15 feet long! They got a kick out of realizing that was like 2 of our tables.

On Thursday, the Upper Sandusky EMS came to teach us about what they do and let us get in the ambulance.

This Week - The fifth grade class is sponsoring a spirit week for the last week of school. Participation is optional, and dress code must be followed.
  • Tuesday: Pajama Day - Students must be modestly dressed and follow dress code. They also must wear tennis shoes for Field Day.
  • Wednesday: Dress Nice for Awards - Parents are welcome at 8:30 for school awards, then back to the classroom for Kindergarten Awards. We will hopefully be finished by 9:30.
  • Thursday: 80s Day; Last Day of School - PTO provides pizza for lunch; Early Release 12:45
This has been such a fantastic year! I hope your children have enjoyed it as much as I have! There will be one more weekly wrap up next week with pictures from the last week of school.

:) Miss McPheron
