Batty Weekly Wrap Up

We spent the week learning about bats. We read nonfiction books to help us learn new informational about bats. We used vocabulary like hibernate, nocturnal, and echolocation. We measured the wingspan of 4 different bats. I measured the yarn using a meter stick, then we measured it using unifix cubes. A giant flying fox has a wingspan of 5 feet!

We also learned that one bat can eat 600 mosquitoes in an hour. The kids worked in small groups to put 100 mosquitoes on a page. We counted by 100s to get to 600.

We are continuing to work on numbers beyond 10. Students should be able to recognize their teen numbers. If they can't, that is something you can work on with your child! We made a 50s chart on the floor using big number cards to help us practice counting to 50.

David Biedrzyki came to our school on Thursday. He gave talked us through the process of creating a book, and did some illustrations for us! You can see the school album on the East Website by clicking here.

Our field trip is on Tuesday. Please remember to have your child to school on time. Students need to wear clothes appropriate for the farm that can get dirty. They need to wear closed toed shoes. Please remember to send a packed lunch unless you made arrangements with me for a school packed lunch. I'm really looking forward to this trip!

Because we have our field trip on Tuesday, we will go to the library on Monday. Please return books on Monday so they can get a new book.

Grade cards will come home on Wednesday. Please take the contents out, sign the envelope, and send the envelope and Conference Request form back by Friday. I schedule conferences on a first come, first serve basis, so please return as soon as possible!

If you have any questions, please let me know!
