First Week

We had a great first week of school! The kids did great, and I think we are going to have a fantastic year!

We have read a lot of books this week and have been working on routines, so you haven't seen a lot of worksheets come home. If you don't see worksheets in their folder, please assume we did some hands on activities instead of paperwork.

The first day of school, we read The Kissing Hand. This is a great book about a raccoon named Chester who goes to school for the first time. His mother reminds him that his family loves him and that loves goes with him wherever he is. We made a raccoon out of hearts that we have hanging up in our classroom. We were able to practice cutting and making dots with our liquid glue.
We read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and made mosaic letters using the first letter of our name. Once again, we were practicing making small dots with our liquid glue.

Another book we read was called Lacey Walker, Nonstop Talker. We talked about what it looks like to be a good listener, and made a diagram as a class.
Next week, we will start our more routine learning activities. We have a reading series that we use as a district that helps students think about books and gives them a start towards becoming readers. I'm looking forward to next week! It looks like it will be hot - our room doesn't circulate air very well, so make sure you dress your child cool, or in layers. Remember, flip flops are not allowed at school.

If you have any questions, let me know! I'm happy to help!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Welcome to East School! I'm so excited to get to know you and your child!

I've updated the pages on the right side of this page. You can learn about our daily schedule, our classroom expectations and the general information page has answers to lots of your questions.

I'm looking forward to meeting you on Monday, August 24 at 5:30 for our Open House. This is a chance to see the classroom, meet me, and drop off your supplies.

Upper Sandusky does a stagger start for kindergarten. At East, students whose last names start with A-L will attend school on Wednesday, August 26, and then Friday, August 28, with an all day every day schedule beginning August 31. Students whose last names start with M-Z will attend school on Thursday, August 27 and Friday, August 28 with an all day every day schedule beginning August 31. Having just half the class those first couple days helps everyone transition a little better.

I'll be sharing more about myself in our first weekly newsletter as well as in our classroom, but here's a picture in case your child is curious who their teacher is!

Enjoy those last few days of summer!
