Weekly Wrap Up

Because our short week for the fair last week, I'll be sharing what we've been working on the last couple weeks!

Constitution Day was September 17, so we read a book that helps explain the Preamble to kids called We the Kids. Then, we talked about our rules at school and put them in categories. The kids drew a picture of what happens when we follow rules. A lot chose to draw a picture of having fun at recess, a benefit of doing what we should!

We have been working on recognizing letters - next week we will start focusing on one letter a week with sounds as well. We worked with our table mates to sort letters.

We've also been working hard on sight words. It seems like things are starting to "click" with reading! I was so proud of the kids this week as they read with me in small groups. Reading bags will come home on Tuesday again - please return the next day with the books, sight words, and sign off sheet. Your student should be reading the book to you!

We spent this week learning about apples. We used the scientific method to see if an apple can float. We made predictions, followed a procedure, and recorded our results!

We tasted apples and made a graph with our opinions.
We talked about how an apple grows.
Next week, we will talk about parts of an apple and make applesauce.

We will have library on Tuesday, so please send your child's book back! Our fundraiser also ends on Tuesday, so also send the packets back that day. If you have any questions, please let me know! I'm excited with the progress our class has already made this year!
