Batty Weekly Wrap Up

We spent this week learning about bats. We learned that they are nocturnal animals that sleep during the day and are awake at night. We learned that they use echolocation to locate insects to eat while flying. This has been their favorite song this week.
We measured the wingspan of different bats using cubes. The biggest bat is the Giant Flying Fox with a wingspan of 5 feet.
We learned that one bat can eat 600 mosquitoes in one hour. To help us understand what that looks like, we worked in teams to create 6 posters with 100 mosquitoes each.

We also read one of my favorite books this week, Go Away Big Green Monster. We drew the monsters and used watercolors to paint them. The kids had a blast!

We are working on reading with sight words and sounding out words. This is our process all year! We keep trying and working, and it clicks for everyone at different times. I encourage you to read to your child every night, and listen to them read regularly.
In Math, we have been working with position words, and the kids have been rocking it! We are starting teen numbers next week.
The quarter ended today. You will see grade cards come home on Wednesday. There will also be a Parent Teacher Conference form in their grade card envelopes. Please return as soon as possible.
If you have any questions at all, please let me know!
