Weekly Wrap Up

We had a busy week this week!

We took our i-Ready math and reading diagnostic assessments for the final time this week. I will send home scores this week. Please be sure to ask if you have any questions.

On Wednesday, illustrator Tim Bowers came to our school! We have had a great time the last few weeks reading many of the books he's illustrated. He talked about how he became an illustrator and read one of his books to us. He showed us how to draw using basic shapes. It was a great presentation!

On Thursday, a group from Mid-Ohio Energy came to teach us about being safe around electricity. They talked a little bit about how electricity works, and gave us great safety tips. They showed us what linemen wear to stay safe. It was really interesting!

We learned about plants this week. We learned about their parts, their needs, and how they grow. The most exciting part was getting to plant seeds! My dad is a horticulturist, and came to help us plant marigold seeds. We will observe them for a few weeks, then I will send them home!
Before we planted, we made observations using magnifying glasses. We looked at the soil, and my dad told them the different things they were seeing in the soil. We also looked closely at the seeds before they got to plant 5 seeds in their cup.

In Math the last couple weeks, we have been working on decomposing teen numbers. We did some partner work this week matching base ten blocks to numbers. We took our test yesterday. I will have grades in by the end of the weekend.

Next week, we are going to learn about living and nonliving things. We will have another energy presentation, so we will talk a little bit about types of energy. We are starting measurement in math. We are going to work with vowel pairs ee and ea to read words with long vowels.

Have a great weekend!
Miss McPheron
