Weekly Wrap Up

This week, we started studying the rainforest. We learned about the 4 layers, used hand motions to help us remember, and then labeled the layers in a picture. I have been challenging them to do quality work - we are getting ready for first grade, you know!

We did some narrative writing about where a snake could hide. They were very creative and their pictures were very detailed.

We also did some informative writing about sloths. We read a couple nonfiction books and watched a webcam from the Atlanta Zoo. I love how they draw their pictures with the sloth hanging upside down.

Next week, we will learn about tree frogs and toucans, then start learning about pizza to get us ready for our Dominos Field Trip!

We worked on shades of meaning this week as well. We read a book called Move and made a chart of ways animals move.
We got to go outside and act out some verbs with similar meanings. One set was tap, knock, thump, and pound. Another set was walk, skip, run, and dash. The kids had a blast!

In Math, we are working on pennies, nickels, and dimes. I am planning on a test soon, but seeing that several are mixing up nickels and dimes - you may want to go over these coins at home for an extra layer of practice and exposure! They need to know the name and the amount each is worth. We will continue working at school as well.

We have a lot of activities coming up in the next couple weeks - be sure to check out your weekly newsletter each Friday.

Have a wonderful weekend!
:) Miss McPheron
