Hopefully if you are reading this, your child may be starting kindergarten this fall at East! I am so excited to get to know each student and to watch them grow throughout the year.
I wanted to provide some information for you about a couple things before school even gets started!
Open House: Monday, August 15, 6:30-7:30
At East, we do our Open House before school starts. This is an opportunity to see the school and our classroom. This is also the perfect time to bring in all that paperwork you should have received in the mail! Mrs. Beach, our secretary, will be in the office to take that and you may also pay school fees at this time.
You should have received a colored sheet (I think it was green) that was called About Your Child - that sheet is for my information to give me a little bit of background and an easy way to get in contact with you. Please bring that form to open house with you!
You may also bring your school supplies with you so that all you need the first day of school is your backpack! Here is our supply list for this year.
In Upper Sandusky, we do a stagger start for kindergarten to help everyone transition in smoothly. This only affects the first week of school Students whose last name begins with the letters A-L will come to school Wednesday, August 17 and Friday August 19. Students whose last name begins with the letters M-Z will come to school Thursday, August 18 and Friday, August 19. Starting August 19, all kindergarten students come every day.
Students need to be in our classroom by 7:55 AM each morning. The school opens at 7:30, with breakfast available. Students come to the classroom at 7:45 after waiting in the gym. Parents, you may bring your child back to our room the first day of school, but after that, we have found that it is easier on the students if you drop them off at the school door, where there are staff members to greet them.
The bus picks up the bus riders at 2:30, and once the bus leaves, the rest of the school is dismissed. If your child has an older sibling, they will walk out with them. Otherwise, we are the last class that comes out the door. You may wait on the school lawn and I will dismiss your student to you. You may also wait in your car and drive going north on 3rd Street, and I will walk your child to your car. The end of the day routine can be a little chaotic the first couple days of school until I learn faces, but it becomes very smooth as the year goes on!
If you have any questions, please email me and I will do my best to help you! I realize this may be your first experience at East School, and I am here to help!
