Apple Week Wrap Up

We spent this week learning about apples! Last week, the students came up with questions, and we did our best to answer these questions this week.
We tasted apples. We liked the red apples the best - I brought Gala and they were a hit! We made a graph showing our favorite apples.

We learned how apples grow and showed the apple life cycle.

We tried apple cider.
We made homemade applesauce! The kids helped peel and core the apples.

We added brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and lemon juice.

We got to help mash the apples after it cooked all day.

After smelling it all day, we finally got to taste it!

It was pretty good, and then we did some shared writing to describe it.
It was a great week, and one of my favorite studies we do in the fall!

Next week, we will learn about fire safety. In Math, we will continue working with our numbers 6-10. Students should recognize each number, be able to show it with pictures and objects, and be able to compare it with other numbers to determine which one is greater, less than, or equal. In reading, we are working on the letter a and the short sound it makes like in apple. We will begin to blend the letters together in words to decode the words instead of relying on sight words or picture clues. I'm so proud of how far the class has come already, and we are only 6 weeks into the school year! I hope you are noticing the growth at home with your student as well.

Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Steinman
