Weekly Wrap Up

We had a busy week this week! The temperatures are getting colder, so please send gloves, hats, and a warm coat every day for our 45 minutes of recess.
In Math, we are working on decomposing numbers. This means we are breaking numbers apart into two groups. For example, 4 can be taken apart into a group of 1 and 3 or 2 and 2. We took a quiz on Friday and they did great! We have another week yet with larger numbers, but I've been very impressed! This lays the foundations for addition and subtraction, which we will be starting next. We played a game with a partner to show ways to make 10 with double sided counters.

We wrapped up our unit on maps this week. We got to explore with some real maps. We used Google Earth on the iPads, a globe, a map of Ohio and an atlas. They kids loved it, and some have asked to use Google Earth during centers.

Our student teacher, Miss Perdue, is beginning to teach some lessons. She's starting with Science and will soon be teaching Math. She has also led many small groups in reading and math during centers. I'm so excited that the students have the chance for extra reading and math with both myself and Miss Perdue! She is teaching on polar animals right now in science.

We are always looking for ways to practice sight words. One of our favorite way is Whack a Word. The students all have the letters and a hammer, and practice spelling our sight words for each week.

We finished our i-Ready diagnostics. I have a couple students that were absent, so once the entire class has completed the assessments, I look forward to sharing their scores with you. Many students made a lot of growth, and I'm very proud and very pleased.
Always feel free to ask any questions you have! Have a great weekend!
:) Mrs. Steinman
