Weekly Wrap Up

I'm combining the last two short weeks into one post.
The PTO hosted an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids at East. Thanks to all of you who sent candy, and those of you that came to stuff eggs and help run the hunt! I was so impressed to see so many of the volunteers being from our class - thank you, we appreciate your time!

We spent last week learning about oviparous animals (animals that come from eggs). This week we talked about how to take care of our earth. We talked about the 3 R's - reduce, reuse and recycle - and they made posters to show a way to take care of the earth. I didn't get a picture of the completed posters, but they are hanging in the hallway to encourage both the students and visitors at our school to care for our earth!

Next week, we are going to look at different parts of the earth and spend some time learning about habitats.
We took an impromptu nature walk on Thursday to look for signs of spring. The kids found flowers and noticed new leaves coming out on the trees. We enjoyed an opportunity to be scientists in our environment!

We are also being scientists as we observe caterpillars in our classroom! We received some Painted Lady Caterpillars this week, and are going to learn about caterpillars and butterflies as we watch them grow and change. The kids have great questions, so we are going to do our best to find answers to them!
Arnold Family Eyecare came to our class on Thursday to talk to us about taking care of our eyes. They also gave every student a pair of sunglasses! It's great having community members come to our school.
In Math this week, we started working on telling time to the hour. The kids are rock stars! This has not been a challenge at all! We will take a test on Tuesday, then we will start working with coins. Students need to know the names and values of pennies, nickels and dimes. We will be putting our skip counting to work!
Have a great weekend!
