Week 2 Wrap Up

We worked really hard this week in kindergarten! We jumped into our curriculum for math and reading, and learned about our five senses. In math, we are working on counting to 5, recognizing and writing numbers 1-5, and representing those numbers with items. Our standard we have been focusing on says that students can "count to answer the question how many." You have seen colorful math papers come home. Please talk about each one with your child as they come home each night.

In reading, we learned about characters and can recognize characters in stories. We learned to use sight words to read and we learned to write several letters. Next week, we will work on setting, more letters, and adding the sight word "and."
In science, we used our five senses and learned what part of our body helps us use that sense.
We had an assembly with Barney Sue, a talking bus, this week to learn how to be safe on a bus.
Here's a glance at the standards we are focusing on next week.
We will be learning the Pledge of Allegiance next week. On Tuesday, you will see a flag project come home. We will be celebrating each child on Friday by sharing those flags.

  • Please send a pair of headphones or earbuds to keep at school to use with iPads and Chrome Books.
  • Please send a note in your child's orange folder if their afternoon transportation plans change. I will send them home the way I have unless you send a note, simply to keep your child safe. I cannot take your child's word for it.
  • When you pick your child up in a car, please use the car line or park on a street other than 3rd Street. We will be down the sidewalk as soon as those who wait on the lawn are dismissed. It will keep everything running smoothly if you stay in your car and allow us to walk your child to the car.
Upcoming Dates
  • Monday, September 2 - No School
  • Wednesday, September 11 - Book Orders Due
  • Thursday, September 12 - No School, Inservice
  • Friday, September 13 - No School, Fair Day
As always, please contact me with any questions.

First Weekly Wrap Up

We have finished our first week of kindergarten! We had a great few days this week, and I'm sure we have a great year ahead of us!

We have an ocean theme in our classroom, so we used some props for our first day of kindergarten photos.

We spent a lot of time this week learning procedures and routines and we will continue to do that in the next few weeks. One of our regular activities is singing. Some of this is to work out some extra energy, and a lot of the songs help us learn.
Another big part of our day is centers. Students work on independent activities with a partner in order to give me a chance to work with small groups or do assessments.
We read a lot of books throughout the day, and eventually, your children will be learning to read as well! One of the books we read was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. This story uses the letters of the alphabet as characters. We decorated the first letter of our name to practice recognizing letters and using liquid glue. These will go in our hallway soon.
Next week, we are starting our Reading and Math Curriculum. We are going to be meeting Common Core Standards throughout the year, and the curriculum series we have help us do that.

  • Please send in a pair of headphones or earbuds to keep at school to use with iPads and Chrome Books
  • Please check and return orange folders every night
  • Please let me know with a note in the folder if you have transportation changes
  • Please send money in an envelope in the folder with your child's name on it
Upcoming Dates
  • Monday, September 2 - No School, Labor Day
  • Wednesday, September 11 - Scholastic Book Orders Due
  • Thursday, September 12 - No School, Teacher Inservice
  • Friday, September 13 - No School, Fair Day
I'm looking forward to the coming weeks and months! Please contact me with any questions you have.

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Welcome to East School, and thanks for stopping by our blog! The blog is typically updated each weekend during the school year with photos and descriptions of what we are learning.

I look forward to meeting each of you at open house on Monday, August 19 from 5:30-6:30. If you enter the main doors of the school that face 3rd Street, we are to the right. Please bring any paperwork you have received and your school supplies.

I have updated our schedule for this year. Please be aware that your child will be able to come to our room each morning at 7:45. Students may arrive as early as 7:30 and will wait in the gym. Breakfast is available during that time. All students must be in the classroom by 7:55.

Dismissal is at 2:30, but is dependent on the bus. After the bus leaves, students will be walked out of the main doors at the south end facing 3rd Street. Kindergarten will be the last class out, and students will wait for me to dismiss them. You may wait on the lawn for your child or in your car in the car line, which moves north on 3rd Street. Please do not park your car in the car line and get out. I will walk your child to your car in the car line when you pull up.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask! My email is or the school phone number is (419) 294-2396. We are going to have a great year, and together, we will see your child succeed!
