Thanksgiving Weekly Wrap Up

We have had a full week.

In Math, we worked on counting by 10s. Most students can count by 10s to 100! We practiced by hopping over dimes and counting out loud.

We also practiced putting numbers in order from 11-20. We made pilgrim hats to make human number lines.
On Friday, we worked with second grade to make bracelets about the first Thanksgiving. We ended the day by watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break! Looking forward to seeing you all at conferences. If you have any questions, let me know!

Weekly Wrap Up

We had a great week this week. I'm seeing so much improvement - I'm so proud of how far we've come!
We have been working really hard on teen numbers. We ordered numbers on a clothesline with clothespins. Our goal for kindergarten is to know these number by sight.

We also need to be able to represent these numbers with objects. We used candy corn on tens frames this week to practice.

We also worked with partners to practice counting groups and writing numbers. We double checked our work after.

We have a college observer from Ohio State that has been with us this fall. This week, Miss Perdue taught our class about turkeys. We learned how turkeys survive and how their body parts are used for survival. We also learned how big turkeys are. We used cubes to measure the height of female and male turkeys.

We also used some weights to feel how heavy a turkey is - the average turkey is 15-17 pounds!

Next week, we will learn about the first Thanksgiving and talk about what it means to be thankful. We will continue working on our teen numbers. We have been adding more sounds and letters each week as we read - I'm was so impressed in small groups this week as they read to me.

If you have any questions, let me know!

Weekly Wrap Up

Can you believe it's November? We had a short, busy week - so busy, I forgot to take pictures.

We learned about elections and got to vote a couple times - once for popcorn or chips as our favorite snack we tasted, and once for which book we liked better. We read Grace for President and Duck for President. Grace was the winner in our class!

We also learned about hibernation this week. We read the book Bear Snores On, which the kids thought was great! We read several nonfiction books as well to help us understand what kinds of animals may sleep through the winter.

We are working hard on reading and decoding words - I can't get over how much they're learning! When I think of where we started, it's hard not to notice their improvements.

In Math, we have been working on numbers bigger than 10. It made my teacher heart really happy today to hear them tell our volunteer that we are going to know our numbers all the way to 20! I love that they know our goals. We have been learning to recognize them and show them in different ways. Today we used different math tools to represent 15 on tens frames.

Next week, we will be talking about Veterans. I sent home a note encouraging you to send anything in from your family to celebrate veterans - I will be sharing photos of my family members who have served or are currently serving. We will also learn about turkeys to start thinking about Thanksgiving. If you have any questions, let me know!
