Weekly Wrap Up

This week we learned about the sky. We talked about what we see during the day, night, or both. Clouds and the moon ended up in the both section!
We learned about stars and used our imaginations to make our own constellations. Here is a bunny.

We learned that the moon has different phases, and that in some phases, we see it during the day. We made examples of 4 of the phases.

We learned that the sun changes position throughout the day because the earth turns. We made a flow chart for the sun.
Next week we are learning about groundhogs and matter.

In Math, we have continued to decompose numbers into different groups. The kids are doing beautifully with this! They are so confident, and I love it! We will wrap up that chapter this week and start addition next.

In Reading, we are working on blends. The kids are picking up on these quickly as well! We practice every day and we will start to have blends in the books we read regularly.

You saw a lot of handouts come home on Friday. Make sure you look carefully at all of them! I attached a ziploc bag to the yellow sheet for the fundraiser for our student at East with cancer. You can send money any day, just make sure we know what it is for! For 50 cents on Friday, students may wear a hat!

If you have any questions about anything, please let me know!

Weekly Wrap Up

This week, we learned about Martin Luther King Jr. We learned that he wanted everyone to be treated fairly, and we talked about what it means to be a good friend. We read "The Crayon Box That Talked," which is a short poem about crayons that didn't get along. At the end, they realized how important the other crayons are. We each colored our own crayon to hang in the hallway.

We also learned about maps this week. We talked about how maps represent real places and that there can be maps for small places or big places, like our world. We colored pictures of globes to show land and water.

We played a game called "Land or Water." We spun the globe, and had to watch for where each person's finger landed, and called out land or water.

We read the book Me on the Map, the kids thought it was really interesting!

In Math, we have been working on decomposing numbers. This means we break the numbers into two groups. The kids are doing great! This gets us ready for addition and subtraction in the future.
We have used objects to break the numbers apart and record them. We will continue working on this next week with larger numbers up to 10.

In Reading next week, we are starting blends. I attached a chart to your newsletter today with the blends we will be working on. We will start learning them Monday!

Have a great weekend!

Weekly Wrap Up

What a week! With all the delays and closings, I lost track of "normal!"

We wrapped up our study of 3D shapes. You should see test scores online by the end of the weekend. We used real examples to determine what would stack. They already had a pretty solid understanding of what would stack, slide, and roll!

The students also brought in examples from home so that we could practice identifying real world examples of 3D shapes.

Next in math, we are going to be decomposing numbers. This means we are breaking them into 2 groups in different ways. For example 5 can be 1 and 4, 2 and 3, and 0 and 5. This chapter gets us ready for addition and subtraction.

Grade cards will come home on Wednesday. We are doing some small groups to help address some trouble areas depending on need. Please return the envelopes by Friday.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Weekly Wrap Up

We had a great week coming back from Christmas break. We spent our time in science learning about the five senses. We labeled the body parts and senses.

We learned about the sense of touch and made a list of texture words. The kids were using them later in different subjects!
We got to use our sense of taste and try some skittles. To wrap up our study, we used all 5 senses to describe popcorn.

Next week, we will be learning about maps.

In Math, we have been working on 3 dimensional shapes. We have learned what they're called, used vocabulary words like face, edge, vertex, roll, stack and slide. We worked with cubes, cylinders, cones, and spheres to see how they move.
We have been singing this song and love it!

Next week, we will continue to work with the 3D shapes. We will be doing some problem solving with them and finding real world examples.

I am working on grade card assessments right now. These are done 1 on 1 with me to give me a true picture of what each child can do. The quarter ends next Friday, and you should see grade cards the following Wednesday.

Remember to send warm clothes for recess every day! We try to get out, even if we can time it between rain storms.

I could use some baby wipes and clorox wipes if you want to send any in to help our classroom.

If you have any questions, let me know!
