Weekly Wrap Up

We had a busy week! We have been working on subtraction. We took our test for the chapter today. I will have grades up by the end of the weekend. We did some fun review activities this week. We read Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. Then, we used buttons to act out story problems. Finally, we matched number sentences to pictures.

We did one of my favorite science units this week - sound!
We learned about how sound is created by vibrations that create invisible sound waves that we hear. We used a balloon to help us see vibrations.

We explored with different instruments to see how to make and change sounds.

The best part was making our own shakers!

I asked them to draw a picture to explain how sound works. Their pictures are awesome!

We celebrated St. Patrick's Day this week. We learned about St. Patrick, leprechauns and pots of gold. We did some creative writing about hiding pots of gold. We also made stylish leprechaun hats.

A crochet club at the public library made hats for all the kids in Upper Sandusky. Your child probably came home with a new hat today! It is theirs to keep.
You also should have found your child's spring pictures today as well. If you want to purchase, you should send in money. If you don't want to keep, please send them back this week.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Weekly Wrap Up

We spent this week preparing for our spring music program! It was great to see everyone there and so fun to watch the kids perform. You can check out some photos on the East School website.

In Social Studies, we learned about goods and services. I was so impressed with how quickly the kids understood the difference and were able to identify different examples of goods and services. We made a lot of connections to our study of community helpers last week. The kids drew examples of goods and services.
We will learn about sound next week, which is one of my favorite science units of the year! '

In Math, we are still working on subtraction. We took a quiz today that will be on the parent portal by the end of the weekend. We will spend another week on subtraction to make sure we have a solid grasp on subtraction. Next week, subtraction flashcards will come home with the addition cards. Please make sure you send back the math fact flashcards every day. They do not come home each day - it depends on if we have other homework or not.

Next week in Reading, we will finish up with the last couple letters of the alphabet. After that, we will work with hunks and chunks (you can find these on the back of your child's folder) and long vowels.

Since January, the class has been working to earn a hot chocolate party for good behavior. We had our party this week! The kids were so excited.

They ended up with milk mustaches.
Have a great weekend!

Snowy Weekly Wrap Up

The snow day today was certainly unexpected - but isn't the snow beautiful this morning?

This week we celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday. We read a lot of Seuss books (my tongue is twisted from all his crazy words now!) At the end of the week, the kids wrote their opinion to share their favorite book and give a reason. A lot said the books were funny or made them laugh.

We made hats to match The Cat in the Hat. We sorted fish and made a graph to go with One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

We did some buddy reading with second grade.

I will send home our newsletter Monday, but here are some things you need to know!
-Library is on Tuesday
-K-2 Spring Program on Thursday - Doors open at 6, Students need to be on the stage at 6:15 wearing nice clothes
-Next week's letters are V and Z
-New sight words: where, come, how
-We are starting timed math fact tests - about once a week, students have a minute to complete a half sheet of math facts. If they pass, they move onto the next level. If they miss any, they will do the same one the next week. This is just to help reinforce the math facts we practice both at school and at home.

Have a good weekend!
