Apple Week

We've been busy in kindergarten! If your child is coming home tired, that's a good sign that they've worked really hard at school.

We learned about apples this week. We are learning to be scientists, so we looked closely at apples to observe the inside and outside. Scientists record what they learn, so we drew a diagram showing the inside and outside of an apple.

We learned about how an apple grows and drew the steps of the life cycle. Scientists share what they've learned, so students shared their life cycles with partners.

We read a book about Johnny Appleseed and made hats to look like the pot he wore on his head!

In Math, we have been working on numbers 0-5. We took a test on Friday and grades have been added to the online parent portal. Our next step will be numbers 6-10. We are going to use tens frames to help us represent the numbers. We will fill from left to right and top to bottom to help organize the amounts.

We learned a game called bump to practice counting and number identification.

This week, all students received a book from Scholastic to keep thanks to donors for our classroom!

In Reading, we have finished the starting unit and are now going to be focusing on one letter a week. We are using super powers to be super readers - Pointer Power, Picture Power, and Sight Word Power. As we work with letter sounds, we will add sound power to stretch out words. Students read with me in groups this week during centers. Their reading bags this week should have more books they can read independently.

At East School, students need a jacket or sweatshirt if the temperature is below 60 for recess. Our first recess is at 11:30, so it's often still chilly then. Masks are starting to break or get misplaced. It may be a good idea to stick an extra mask in your child's backpack in case something comes up.

I hope you have a great weekend!
:) Mrs. Steinman
